Summer is here, which means that working out is something that can happen outside! It can be challenging to stay motivated to exercise, no matter the season. However, there are some perks of working out during the summer that make it a bit more tolerable. These are a few tips to improve your summer fitness routine, no matter your skill level.

Set a Schedule

Setting a schedule is a great way to stay consistent with exercising. Be sure to set a realistic goal, especially if you are just starting out. Remember, any exercise is better than no exercise at all! There are many free workout calendars available online and apps to help you log your workout on your phone.

Start Small

If working out seems like a daunting task, start small. Make it a goal to hit 10,000 steps a day. Walking is an activity that is great for the body but gets overlooked because a lot of people are stuck in office jobs all day.

Make Exercise Fun

This is perhaps the most important tip on the list! Finding an exercise that is fun will make the process much easier. Since it is summertime, there are a whole variety of fun activities to do outside that count as exercise.

Volleyball

Gather up a group of friends and head to the beach or the park for a friendly game of volleyball! The muscles that will be worked in this activity include legs, arms, and core. Try this activity in the evening, so you don’t overheat if you live in a warm climate!

Stand Up Paddleboarding

Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) is an excellent form of exercise that works the core to the max. This is an activity that takes some practice, so be sure to give yourself some slack if it is just your first time. This is a great way to extend yoga practice and enjoy time on the water.

Pickleball

Another great team activity, Pickleball, will work the whole body. You’ll likely be drenched in sweat at the end, but you’ll forget you are working out since this is a game! It is an excellent opportunity to get outside and enjoy the weather while also making new friends this summer.
